vehicle + heavy equipment mechanic

jOB dESCRIPTION

ViaSun Corporation is in search of a motivated Vehicle and Heavy Equipment Mechanic
that can help repair and maintain all ViaSun vehicles and heavy equipment. This
position requires Mechanical/technical aptitude, safe work habits, a good working
knowledge of equipment operations and mechanical functions.

Essential FUNCTIONS
  • Maintain heavy equipment that includes hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical
    machinery.

  • Inspect fleet vehicles and heavy equipment to determine whether repairs are
    needed.

  • Diagnose equipment based on observational and mechanical testing as well as
    information provided by the operator.

  • Troubleshoot problems to include brake, electrical and hydraulic systems, detect
    imperfections, potential problems, safety issues and/or malfunctions.

  • Replace broken or defective parts on fleet vehicles and heavy equipment.

  • Reassemble equipment and make all necessary adjustments for effective and safe
    operation.

  • Responsible for the confirmation of the equipment function after repair.

  • Maintains a clean and safe equipment, tools and workspace.

  • Knowledge and ability to operate tools, diagnostic tools and any equipment
    required to conduct any/all repairs.

  • Maintains repair log for vehicles and equipment.

  • Ensure work area and methods used in carrying out job duties meet safety
    requirements.

  • Accountable for following all DOT, OSHA, and established Company rules,
    regulations, and guidelines.

  • Cleaning of equipment and other areas as required.

  • Capable of working independently or within a team environment.

  • Willing to work over-time, including weekends, when requested.

  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

jOB rEQUIREMENTS
  • Excellent mechanical repair skills and ability to follow instructions.

  • Ability to read repair manuals for various types of vehicles and equipment and to
    use hand tools and power tools to repair fleet vehicles and heavy equipment.

  • Strong in preventative maintenance of fleet, including maintenance of routine oil
    and tire changes.

  • Able to work for extended periods in various locations, when required.

  • Capable of working with minimal supervision, being customer service oriented, a
    problem solver, reliable, ethical, able to effectively adapt to the people and
    environment around them.

Supervisory Responsibility

This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

wORK eNVIRONMENT

This job operates in an outdoor and mechanic shop environment which is subject to weather conditions, elements, loud noises, and machinery.

education + experience
  • 3-5 year minimum of recent mechanic experience in same or similar industry.

  • Required to bring and use a personal set of tools.

  • Valid driver’s license and medical card required.

  • CDL is preferred but not required.

  • Some on-the-job training is provided.

physical REQUIREMENTS
  • Prolonged periods working on vehicles and equipment.

  • Must be physically able to access vehicles and equipment either by kneeling or
    lying on back.

  • Must be able to lift in excess of 50 pounds.

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to
    fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts and vibration.

  • Occasionally exposed to a variety of extreme conditions at construction job sites
    where noise level can be loud as well as working performed outside in variety of
    weather conditions including extreme cold and heat.
