Controller

jOB dESCRIPTION

ViaSun Corporation, a leading pavement preservation and civil construction company is
seeking an experienced Controller. This individual will plan, lead, direct, develop, and
coordinate the policies, activities, and staff of our Finance Department. The Controller will
manage accounting and financial reporting processes and engage with leadership team on
projections, business planning, and financial strategy.

Supervisory Responsibility
  • Oversees Accounting processes and entries to ensure efficiency and accuracy.

  • Supervises Accounting team providing guidance, coaching and assistance when necessary.

duties + responsibilities
  • Manage entire accounting process: budgets, financial statements, balance sheets, cash flows, depreciation, and inventory.

  • Develop and maintain a system of controls over accounting transactions and
    recommend best practices.

  • Prepares details and summary schedules for management as required.

  • Timely monthly, quarterly, year-end reporting.

  • Responsible for financial forecasting and preparing budgets.

  • Manage banking relationships and deposits to optimize cash flows and complete bank
    related reporting.

  • Supports finance department reviews and audits to ensure compliance.

  • Manage the WIP for accuracy and assist with any job costing as needed.

  • Leads, mentors, motivates, and evaluates the performance of accounting and human
    resources teams.

  • Partners with outside CPA on monthly and year end financials. Attends CPA financial
    and KPI reviews.

  • Works with Leadership team to develop and implement strategic plan as well as
    working toward strategic goals.

  • Partners with Trustee, Valuation firm, TPA, and CPA on ESOP related reporting and
    annual valuations.

  • Reviews to ensure accuracy of weekly payroll.

  • Maintain state registrations, business tax licenses, etc.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

education + experience 
  • Business Degree in Accounting or Finance

  • 7-10 years accounting experience.

  • Construction Industry experience preferred but not required.

  • Fundamental knowledge of GAAP.

  • Experience with accounting processes, journal entries, allocations, and accruals.

  • Strong analytical and MS Excel skills.

  • ESOP experience desirable.

  • Ability to communicate effectively with team members at all levels of the organization.

  • Strong leadership, interpersonal and communication skills.

  • Supervisory experience with an accounting team.

physical REQUIREMENTS
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, stoop, crouch, crawl and climb all day on your feet for  long periods of time 

  • Must be able to frequently lift or move items up to 75 pounds 

  • Exposure to fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts and vibration

  • Exposed to a variety of extreme cold and hot weather conditions
